Alice Caudle was born in Alabama in 1866 at the town of Henderson's Store.  She was the daughter of a confederate soldier, and move to Mt. Vernon, Texas, by wagon train at the age of one year.  She was married to Dee La Fayette Caudle at the age of 17, and they had eight children.  After several years farming, Mr. Caudle became station agent for the Kansas City Southern Rail Road Co., and the family lived at the towns of Basset, Cameron and Rodessa, La.  Following Mr. Caudle's death at age 45 Mrs. Caudle lived for a time at Vivian, La.  We think she moved back to Mt. Vernon, Texas and then moved to LaPorte, Texas in 1949.  She was living at  the Lucille McNellie home at 320 Forest St., LaPorte, Texas at the time of her death. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of LaPorte.  Pall bearers were grandsons, J.D. Keel, Jim D. Horney, Delmar C. Caudle, and Great Grandson Bill Benton III and she is buried in Forest Park Cemetery in Houston alongside Irene Horney her daughter.
